Killarney National Park

Killarney town is surrounded by the Killarney National Park. The Park covers an area of 26,000 acres. The park is world famous for its breathtaking view and abundance of local wildlife with stags in particular being sighted regularly. To explore the park in depth would take days but here at Killaran House we are more than happy to help you find the best spots and trails to ensure that you get the most out of your stay with us.

Muckross House & Gardens

This is one of Killarney’s premier attractions, boasting an amazing Victorian house and gardens nestled in the National Park. There are daily tours in the peak months or simply take a stroll around the extensive grounds and gardens.

MacGillycuddy's Reeks

The MacGillcuddy's Reeks are a mountain range located in the Iveragh Peninsula. They stretch 19 kilometers from the Gap of Dunloe in the east to Glencar in the west. The Reeks is Ireland's highest mountain range, and includes most of the highest peaks and sharpest ridges in Ireland.
 
Whether your an experienced mountain climber or a first timer the Reeks offers trails that cater to the advanced and the inexperienced. Either way be prepared to marvel and the breathtaking views that can only be found at the Reeks.

Torc Waterfall

Torc Waterfall is best seen after heavy rainfall and is one of Killarney’s most popular tourist attractions. Located just 7km outside the Killarney – Torc Waterfall also offers spectacular views of the Killarney lakes. Torc Mountain located nearby is also well worth a trip. A moderate enough mountain climb, it takes roughly 2 hours to complete. The reward for reaching the top is an amazing view of Killarney from the top.

Ross Castle

Ross Castle stands on the edge of the lower lake of Killarney and was built in the 15th century by O'Donoghue Mór. The Castle fell into the possession of the Brownes, who were Kenmare's Earls and owned a large portion of the lands that are now a portion of Killarney National Park.
 
With stunning views and steeped in folklore no trip to Killarney is complete without a trip to Ross Castle.

The Gap of Dunloe

The stunning Gap of Dunloe is a narrow mountain pass carved by Glacial Ice, it offers amazing views of hills, valleys and lakes. One of Killarney’s most iconic attractions, visitors flock each year due to its geological significance, a wealth of legends, and potential for hiking and climbing.
